Humpback Whale beans are at their best 4 to 8 weeks after the roast date, and keep longer unopened. To get you early in that window we keep stock small: what's on the shelf is fresh-roasted and goes straight out to you; anything we're out of is roasted for your order.
Keep whole beans cool, dry, dark and airtight — the original bag with its valve closed is enough. Not in the fridge: condensation and stray odours do more harm than room temperature. Grind only just before you brew.
Whole beans hold their aroma many times longer; ground coffee loses it within minutes to hours. That is why Humpback Whale ships whole beans only, and grinds fresh on request at the Munich café.
